here's a basic explanation of the character types. any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask an admin!base citizen
a base citizen can be just about anyone. they were either patients/doctors that ended up here, or wanderers that were brought in. no matter what, they are all safe in what was once a mental hospital. citizens here range in all races and backgrounds. the only common ground they all have is that none are infected with the x virus. anyone can be brought into the base who is not infected, as long as they are willing to help and share, and don't seem dangerous. the base has particular need for individuals, such as doctors, who are able to provide a service to citizens. the base is run as a community and features a variety of things and areas that can no longer be found in the destroyed world outside the walls.
wanderer
wanderers are just as they sound - they wander. these may be people who have yet to find the base, or choose not to live there. the base will occasionally take wanderers in (provided they are not seemingly dangerous or infected), but they're usually uneasy about it. wanderers are usually self sufficient and either live somewhere protected (an old house, factory, school, etc) or they jump around from place to place. wanderers typically search less infested buildings for the supplies they need before moving onto the next.
the infected
the infected are the unfortunate (or fortunate) who have not yet died from the virus. because they are still alive, this means they were not bitten. they became infected through blood, matter, or scratching. those who are infected this way show signs of turning, but don't. most die within a week, but there are a handful of survivors who have been around for nearly a year since the outbreak first spread. it is presumed that there are certain reasons for that (i.e. chemotherapy has put enough radiation in their body to keep the virus at bay, or they have found an antivirus that counters the reaction, but not cures it), but no one knows why. they may have weaker immune systems and show signs of aggression, but are generally the same person they were. they are not dead, but their cells are working on shutting down. the only way to physically tell a person has been infected is to look at their fingernails, which will all be dark or black due to their cells dying. the infected are not allowed in the base, so most are forced to be wanderers while some choose to bunker down in a safe place alone, or with other infected.
zombies
though zombies are not a group, here is some information on them. zombies are dead. they do not retain any thoughts or comprehension from their previous life. they were infected with the X Virus which slowly shut down their cells until they died. because of the mutation, they were then brought back to life. however, with their cells already dead and their bodies unable to create new ones, they merely became walking, eating shells of what they once were. these zombies are the slow mulling kind, but can pick up some speed, but can't run. they stick together in hoards usually and will navigate to any sights or sounds that are appealing to them. animals are typically immune to them, unless by accident. they live for blood and flesh and will stop at nothing to get them. however, they are dumb and will not notice a human if covered in guts/blood of a dead zombie, or any situation similar. the only way to kill a zombie is by beheading them or somehow destroying the brain (bullet, stabbing). there is no bringing back a zombie; when they die, they're gone for good. though zombies have no motor skills or clue what they are doing, a hoard of zombies and repetitive actions can break through strongholds. the cold of winter slows them down slightly, but not much. they are slightly more active at night, but do not remain dormant during the day. zombies may go by different names, depending on the people. some are, but no limited to: corpses, walkers, biters, the damned, the undead, skin puppets, hosts, rotters, and nightwalkers.
